PLANT HEALTH CARE
Plant health care is a quickly becoming a necessity in the urban forest. Every year invasive insects, plants and disease find their way to the US and are causing substantial damage. Over the years we have lost thousands of trees due to Dutch Elm Disease, Two Lined Chestnut Borer, Oak Wilt, just to name a few. Now, in South Central Wisconsin we are feeling the effects of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) as well. Luckily, just about all of the damage on trees from insects and disease is preventable with proper care and treatment.
Emerald Ash Borer Signs
Early Stage of EAB infection in upper canopy | Flaking of the bark due to woodpeckers searching for the larvae |
---|---|
When the adults emerge from the tree they create a "D" shaped exit hole | Damage done a few years ago by ONE EAB larva. |
Infected city Ash tree marked for removal | Gallery formed by EAB just under the bark of the trees branch. |
